Symptoms of Macular Degeneration include:

Straight lines start to appear distorted, or the center of vision becomes distorted
Dark, blurry areas or white out appears in the center of vision
Diminished or changed color perception
Difficulty in reading or doing any other activity which requires fine vision
Distortion where straight lines appear wavy or bent
Distinguishing faces becomes a problem
Dark patches or empty spaces appearing in the centre of your vision

People who suffer from Macular Degeneration find it hard to read. There are many things that can be designed (including websites) that can help these people to be able to see things more clearly.

Large writting
No serif fonts
Thick or bold writting
Text to be sharp black writting on white pages
Links to change into a colour of great contrast

A Short Introduction To Macular Degeneration

The macular of your eye is used to see fine detail. AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration) occurs with aging when sharp, central vision is gradually destroyed. Central vision is needed for daily activities like reading and driving. AMD is the leading cause of vision loss in Americas 60 years old or older.

AMD is painless. Sometimes the progression of AMD isn’t even noticed by people when it is changing their vision. In other cases the progression is much faster and could lead to blindness in both eyes.

My name is Roxy and I am a student at Kingscliff TAFE studying Certificate IV in Information Technology (Website Design).

I am researching Macular Degeneration and posting my findings on this blog as part of an assignment. I decided to research Macular Degeneration because it runs through my family and my Grandfather was almost completely blind from it.
